Hey lovelies, I hope you’re all warm and well!
As much as we don’t like to say it, blogging is a numbers game. There are so many numerical statistics in the blogging world that we need to keep track off. Weather it’s your monthly page views, Instagram engagement or domain authority. These are the types of figures our blogs are judged by. Domain authority (DA) is a measurement created by MOZ, on how trustworthy your site is and how well it ranks in search engines. I didn’t have a clue about any of this until a few months ago. I done my research and put it to the test. Within 6 months my DA has improved significantly, so I must be doing something right? Now I’m going to share my tips with you on how to increase your domain authority.
The basics
Don’t feel overwhelmed with technical jargon, that’s not what I’m here for. During my research I tried to cram so much information in my little brain. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Take it bit by bit. There are a few simple steps you can take to increase your domain authority. I’ve tried to put things in the most simple terms because it can become a tad confusing.
Get rid of broken links
Search engines tend to rank sites lower if they contain broken links. There’s nothing more annoying then clicking something to be lead to an error page. Google picks up on that and it can damage your domain authority. I check my entire site for broken links every month. It doesn’t take to long and they’re easily fixed or removed. It’s worth taking 10 minutes to double check. Click here to get started.
Site loading time.
How likely are you to exit a site that’s taking ages to load.. exactly! By ensuring that your speed is running quickly you’re more likely to have visitors on your site longer. This will also increase your bounce rate. It’s recommended that you keep your site loading time around 2-3 seconds. Ensure you have a good web host (cloud of dedicated) as this will also help speed your loading time. Did you also know that your blog theme could effect your loading time. Keep it relatively simple and easy to maintain.
Mobile and tablet friendly.
According to a study by comscore, there is now more mobile users than desktop users. Optimising your site to be mobile friendly doesn’t take long and could help increase your traffic and user engagement. Search engines will also deem your site more trust worthy if it’s compatible across different digital devices.
Search engine optimisation (SEO)
SEO is key to increase your domain authority. There’s so many easy ways to optimise your content. Set key words for each post. Ensure your content is key word rich (but don’t just stuff the same words in anywhere for the sake of it). Use those key words as alt tags for your images. Include those key words in the first paragraph of your post. Pop them into your blog title and use them in a a meta description. The easiest and most effective way of boosting my SEO was using a wordpress plugin called yoast. It’s so simple to use and has helped boost my traffic no end. Since using it and the back end of last year, my organic searches have rocketed!
Another good way to boost your SEO is to have internal and external links in your posts. I always try to link two older posts to my latest to help improve my bounce rate and keep my views interest. Again, make them relevant.
Quality content
I guess this one speaks for itself, but it also links to the point above. Having good content is vital. Make it interesting, engage with your audience. This will make them come back to your site. Another way to help increase the quality of your content is by making having good readability. Don’t make sentences and paragraphs to lengthy. Include a header before your paragraph to break up text. Use eye catching and relevant images to separate points and also to draw readers in.
Links to your site.
The amount of links to your site from high quality sites will have a help hugely increase your domain authority. It’s basically a way for search engines to know your site is trustworthy if it’s linked on other trusted sites. There’s a number of ways to do this.
Commenting – leaving engaging comments on blogs you love with a link to your site. Don’t over do it though and make sure you carefully select the blogs you leave your links on. Some bloggers will remove it and that’s up to them but it’s worth a try.
Guestblogging– Creating content on another blog is a great way to introduce yourself to new readers. Always make sure you link your guest post.
Collaborating- When working with a brand on a collaboration, ask them if they’d be willing you share your content on their social media or websites. Collaborating with other bloggers on a topic and linking each other is another good technique!
Hopefully you found this post useful and can start using these tips to increase your domain authority. Let me know how you get on and if you have any advice on DA, I’m always looking. Also, if you want a more indepth post on SEO, let me know in the comments and I can do that for ya ;D

DA is such a tricky one as I find some months even if I put tons of work in it won’t improve and then other months when I’ve done nothing, it’ll shoot up! I try my best to comment on as many blogs as I can generally and keep my broken links to a minimum. SEO is super important aswell, I don’t think I could cope without the plugin now!

The whole world of DA scoring is bloody mind boggling at times, I haven’t checked mine for a while but deffo know I’m overdue a tidy up of my links! A really helpful post Jazzie, I’ll be sure to pop back once I get around to having a blog tidy up! Xx
This is really useful, especially the bit about SEO – I had an idea about it but this helped to inform me a little bit more. I’ve had Yoast for a while but I honestly never use it, I definitely need to start! Thanks for the super informative post x

I love this post – this is exactly what I needed to read right now, as I’m looking to find ways to improve my DA, especially since I recently went self-hosted. I’m going to download Yoast and hopefully that, and your other tips, will help. Thank you for this post! ☺️
This is such a helpful post for people wanting to improve their DA. I know a lot of people do but don’t really know where to start. I’m fortunate in that my DA is really good but I didn’t really do anything to get it that way (because I didn’t know I was supposed to haha!) however I do have like over a thousand broken links which I need to tackle at some point in time!
I find DA so confusing! For months I didn’t even fully understand what it was and certainly wasn’t making any effort to improve mine and it was consistently going up. The second I started trying to improve it, it stood still for two months even though all of my stats were going in the right direction. Thank you for reminding me to check for my broken links though! Haven’t done that in a while…oops x
