Blog prop haul

July 19, 2017

Hey loveliess, I hope you’re all warm and well!
Following on from my previous post (My love hate relationship with Instagram.) I decided to do a little shopping and purchase some cute little props to include in my photos. Normally I just use synthetic flowers and occasionally some fairy lights. Now I thought it was about time I mixed things up a little bit and really step up my blog photography game. While the town I live in doesn’t offer much choice in pretty aesthetically pleasing flatlay props, I thought I’d work with what was around. Everything super affordable too, yay!flatlay props

Wilko’s:

First up, I got a new roll of marble self adhesive paper. My old one was a bit tattered and creased so it was time for a new one. Marble backing is very cliche blogger, but I like the affect it gives and a pale background makes products pop! The roll cost me a fiver, and it lasts quite a long time!

Also from Wilkos, I picked up a cute little notepad/organiser. It has sections for planning, lists, budgeting and notes. I needed a new organiser for when I start my new job. Made sense get a cute one I can use in photos too. I’m a sucker for new stationary and at £2.50 it was a bargain!

The last thing I got from Wilkos was a really cute rose gold “pen pot”. I will 100% be using to store my make up brushes in. With it being rose gold, I figured it might look cute just in the background of some images.

Primark:

So many bloggers pick up cute little bits from there all the time. Typically the primark where I live has the smallest home section, and there wasn’t many options. I was fortunate enough to find one of those tiny plastic succulent plants tucked away beneath the candles so that will feature in some pictures soon I’m sure. The plant I got was £2 but I saw some larger ones for a few extra quid.

The only other item I found in the home section was a heart shaped chalk board with rose gold detailing. Super thought this was super cute for pictures and practical to have around the house. They had a few different designs and sizes, I opted for the smaller one because it was only £2 and just the right size for a blog prop.

Finally, I found a reduced set of rose gold rings. I’ve seen rings in pictures before and they seem to be a good space filler and for £1 I couldn’t really say no! I wont use these rings on my fingers because I find primark jewellery turn my skin green, but they’ll be great at balancing out photos.

The last shop I visited was “the works”. I don’t usually go in there but I was after some clear crystal gems. They didn’t actually have any in stock but I did notice these hugely cute pink and gold pineapple napkins and I had to have them. I still don’t know quite how I will incorporate them in pictures yet, but they’re so cute and in the sale at £2 for 16!

So that’s all the little bits and pieces I picked up. What do you use as flatlay props?

Thank you for being here

Love the props. I’m also like stationary but never really use them in any pics. The love heart is very cute!

Love this! I also like using succulents in my flat lays. The marble paper is something I haven’t invested in yet, but I think I may have to eventually haha! So far, I’ve just been using white poster board, but I love the look of marble too. I think it’s just hard to find contact paper that actually looks like marble, and not paper!

This is so helpful!! You’re brave for trying out Primark. I can’t bear to step foot into that store! I bought marble contact paper as well but it has a crease and it’s super aggravating. One prop I have been eye-ing for autumn/ winter (which is not cheap) is a faux fur little rug in cream or grey. I think that would look so nice given the additional texture. A good tip I got from a successful blogger is to save makeup product boxes from higher end products and you can re-use those in props. Pretty clever!

Marble is definitely a blogger cliche, but it’s because it looks so chic and beautiful! I love it and use it all the time!

I loved the ideas for sure… 🙂 Props are generally too expensive so I have really not dived too much into the brands yet :)..
